Nourishment for the soul

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper once, “I’ve gone to church for 30 years now and have heard about 30000 sermons. But I can’t remember a single one of them. So I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting their time too,” and explained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.

This started a chain of reactions from different people writing to the Editor. This chain continued for weeks till someone wrote a clincher.

“I’ve been married for 30 years now. My wife has so far cooked 32000 meals for me. But I cannot recall a single menu of those meals. But I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those nourishing meals, I would be physically weak today. If I had not listened to those 30000 sermons in the Church which nourished my soul, I would be spiritually dead today.”

When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something.

Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment.
